# 1.01 DESCRIPTION

# 1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Mortar and Grout for Unreinforced Masonry:
1. Mortar:
a. Use materials and mix by proportions in accordance with BIA M1-72.
**OR**
a. Control by laboratory tests in accordance with BIA M1-72.
2. Grout:
a. Mix in accordance with proportion requirements of Type mortar of BIA M1-72.
b. Add sufficient water to produce consistency for pouring without segregation of the constituents.
B. Mortar and Grout for Reinforced Masonry:
1. Mortar
a. Mix in accordance with proportion specifications of ASTM C 476- , Type PL.
**OR**
a. Mix in accordance with Type of BIA M1-72.
b. Use only portland cement Type I, II or III.
c. Air content of mortar shall not exceed 12 percent.
2. Grout:
a. Mix in accordance with proportion specifications of ASTM C 476-
b. Use only portland cement Type I, II or III and lime for cementitious materials.

Use proportion requirements of Type M or S mortar. Selection should be the same as the type mortar specified for the project.
