The architectural competition was judged in Atlanta, Ga., by members of the American Institute of Architects- Joseph S. Bond of Tomberlin Associates; Jerome W. Cooper of Cooper Carry & Associates, and Peter Norris of Hall Norris & Marsh. An award for Excellence In Masonry Craftsmanship on the submitted projects was presented to W.W. Bartlett, Inc.

Oklahoma Masonry Institute

Two financial institutions were this year's winners of the Soloman Layton Award for Excellence In Masonry Design presented by the Oklahoma Masonry Institute in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects Awards Ceremony. The AIA program is held annually, alternating between the Oklahoma and Tulsa Chapters.

The award-winning buildings were Commercial Bank, Oklahoma City, designed by RGDC, Inc., and Duncan Savings & Loan, Duncan, Okla., designed by Elliott & Associates. Bob Cornell of RGDC, Inc., explained his firm's design concept of Commercial Bank this way: "The use of face brick and brick pavers created a maintenance-free facility.
