MASONRY STRONG Podcast, Episode 21 Recap: Justin Meyer, VP of Sales - The Quikrete Companies

Words: Justin Stengel

For this episode of the MASONRY STRONG Podcast, Justin Meyer joins the MCAA in Indianapolis to talk about where his love for the industry started and what it's like attending the CMHA meetings.

A Journey into Masonry

Justin Meyer has been a significant player in the masonry industry for over 22 years. His career began in a sales role with Midwest Block and Brick in Kansas City, Missouri. For industry veterans, this name might ring a bell as it was owned by the legendary Pat Dubbert.

From there, Justin's career blossomed. He expanded his skills to include operations and production. Eventually, Pat Dubbert sold the company to Quikrete, where Justin continues his journey as the national sales manager and vice president.

From Biology to Masonry

Many might wonder if Justin's education was tailored for sales. Interestingly, Justin holds a degree in biology and a master's in ecology. He initially worked for an engineering firm in environmental consulting before the masonry industry beckoned.

The Attraction of the Masonry Industry

One might ask, "Why masonry?" For Justin, the decision was influenced by Pat Dubbert's persistence. Once in, he discovered a tight-knit community. The industry feels like family, and even though there is competition among companies, the real challenge is other building materials.

Embracing Change

Justin envisions technology continuing to shape masonry's future. Innovations like exoskeletons might become standard, making processes easier and prolonging workforce engagement.

Justin’s Vision for the Future

Justin remains optimistic about masonry's future, highlighting material advancements and environmental consciousness. Despite trends like glass or steel constructions, the classic brick and stone architecture will always remain relevant.

Networking and Mentorship

For Justin, industry events like CMHA meetings offer incredible opportunities for networking and learning from pioneers. These connections are invaluable, and the lessons learned continue to shape his career.

Personal Life and Passions

Outside of work, Justin values family time. With a daughter in college and a son in high school, life is always exciting. He enjoys activities like fishing, hunting, and exploring the great outdoors.

Growing Tomorrow's Workforce

Recruiting the next generation is crucial. Programs in states like Texas and initiatives led by Ryan Shaver demonstrate promising growth in attracting new talent to masonry.
