2015 NCMCA Annual Convention

Words: Lynn NashThe North Carolina Masonry Contractors Association (NCMCA) held its Annual Convention in April at Kingston Plantation in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The meeting was well attended, including participation by board members of the MCAA. A combined Board of Directors Meeting and Annual Business Meeting included an update on the Masonry Quality Institute, among many other issues discussed. Changes to MCAA’s Masonry Quality Institute program have been delayed, so MCAA will accept competition of the NCMCA’s presentation of the older version of MQI, planned for June, as credit for MCAA certification. Committees presented updates on their different initiatives. In addition, many different North Carolina chapters presented reports for attendees.

In review, the 2015 NCMCA Convention got underway Thursday, April 16, with an early-bird social featuring musical cement man Donnie Howard. On Friday morning, Adams, an Oldcastle company, presented an education session featuring John Locke Society columnist, John Hood, and the designer of the American Tobacco Campus project, architect Eddie Belk.

The Friday evening President’s Reception was an opportunity to meet old friends and to make new ones. Saturday morning was the Annual Business Meeting. The Convention featured a Saturday Spouse Event hosted by President Ashlee Moore and Denise Gates.

The Annual NCMCA Convention Golf Tournament, sponsored by EZG Manufacturing, was Saturday afternoon and featured an EZG Mud Hog MH-9 Mixer hole-in-one prize, valued at $5,495. Saturday evening, President Ashlee presided as attendees enjoyed the CEMEX closing banquet and danced the night away with Barry Herndon & The Party Nuts. Next year’s meeting will take place April 21 - 24 at The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va.
