Report of the MCAA Technical Committee

Words: Jonathan Anderson

ASTM

The committee continues to report and have group meetings when ASTM ballots are published. This year the group has taken a look at the ballots before we meet and if the committee chairs and consultants do not identify anything controversial to discuss, the group is advised that the ballot is clear to vote affirmative on. This will carry through in 2018.

MACS

The MCAA is taking a more active role in MACS. In 2017 we accepted a Board position within the organization. This will hopefully allow the MCAA to help steer resources to projects we would like to see implemented.

TMS

The MCAA is working with TMS on a variety of potential initiatives on the technical front. They include some issues related to workmanship and some potential cooperative wall bracing work as well.

Masonry

Our very own Jerry Painter is now doing a monthly feature in Masonry titled “Painter’s Corner”. It has been an opportunity to spotlight common technical issues on jobsite. We look forward to this section being a key to our continued development of the technical side of MCAA.

MCAA is also looking for additional volunteers to serve on committees at ASTM and TMS. If interested, please contact either Jerry Painter or Jon Merk.
