Release New Brochure
An outstanding example of industry co-operation has just been provided by publication of a handsome, well-illustrated brochure entitled, "Masonry: A Career."

Four organizations joined forces in this venture the Bricklayers, Masons, and Plasterers International Union, the Canadian Masonry Contractors Association, the Canadian Structural Clay Association and the National Concrete Producers Association. Their common purpose was to encourage more boys to enter the masonry trade.

Distribution of "Masonry: A Career" has been undertaken in co-operation with the Department of Manpower and Immigration, provincial guidance supervisors and directors of apprenticeship, and other authorities. For additional information, boys are referred to school vocational counsellors, the local Canada Manpower Centre, or the Apprenticeship Branch of their provincial Department of Labour.


Brookins Named President
Richard N. Brookins has been appointed President of Essick Manufacturing Company, division of "Automatic" Sprinkler Corporation of America, according to Bryant Essick, Chairman of the Division.

Brookins, formerly Executive Vice President of Essick, succeeds E. E. Tuttle as President. Edward Tuttle will assume new duties as Chairman of the Management Committee and will continue to actively participate in all phases of Essick management. Bryant Essick will continue as Chairman of the Essick and T. L. Smith Divisions of "Automatic" Sprinkler Corporation.

61 Persons Attend Cincinnati Estimating Course
CINCINNATI, OHIO-Sixty-one persons recently completed the Masonry Estimating Course conducted by the Mason Contractors Association of America in cooperation with Allied Construction Industries and the Mason Contractors Association of Greater Cincinnati.

One of the highlights of the seminar was the announcement by Robert Harrison, MCAA Education Committee Chairman, that within a two year period 758 persons have attended in the 16 times that it has been held. Attending the Cincinnati course were representatives from 8 states and Canada.

Featured lecturer for the seminar is Edward G. LeJeune, Manager of Estimating, for the W.E. O'Neill Construction Company, one of Chicago's leading General Contractors. In charge of the meeting planning was Edward C. Harding, Jr., Assistant Manager, ACI.


Strand Promoted
Philip R. Strand has been appointed Director of Advertising & Sales Promotion of the Zonolite Division, W. R. Grace & Co. Strand joined Zonolite in 1946 as an assistant in the Advertising Department. Subsequently, he was advanced to assistant advertising manager, then to advertising manager.

In his new role as Director of Advertising and Sales Promotion Manager, he will be more involved in the long range promotional planning for Zonolite. He will work closely with key management personnel, and product managers to effectively co-ordinate Zonolite's advertising programs with over-all sales and marketing objectives.

Prior to joining Zonolite, Strand served in the United States Army and was a business administration major at Lake Forest College. He has been involved in numerous industry affairs. He is a former president of the Building Materials Exhibitors Association; has served on various committees of the Producers' Council, including the Publications Committee and Market Development Committee; and served on the steering committee, the advertising work shop of the Chicago Advertising Club.

Strand is a resident of Skokie, Illinois (10117 Cherry Parkway), is married, has a son and daughter in college, and one son in elementary school.

Skil News
Marketing Vice President Harry L. Bullock has named Ralph T. Reckling and William T. Gorman to the top two posts in Skil Corporation's Construction Equipment Division. As Marketing Manager, Reckling will head the division and maintain responsibility for all sales and product promotion efforts. Gorman will report to Reckling as Product and Promotion Manager.

Skil entered the construction equipment business late in 1965 with the addition of a rammer-type soil compactor and a paving breaker. The following year the firm purchased the operating assets of the Maginniss Power Tool Company, Mansfield, Ohio, thereby substantially expanding its (Continued on page 28)
