The appointment of Peter E. Herguth to the post of marketing director of Huron Cement Division with headquarters in Southfield, Mich. has been announced by the parent firm, National Gypsum Co. Howard J. Schulte has been sworn in as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health. The British Columbia chapter of the Canadian Masonry Contractors Association has moved to new and larger quarters at 4471 Lougheed Hwy., North Burnaby, B.C., phone (604) 291-8341. Doug Gibson, manager, will operate from the new location which also will include facilities of the Masonry Advancement Fund of British Columbia, a joint union-management promotion group. Walter W. Zeigler, president of Superlite Builders Supply, Phoenix, Ariz., has been elected a director of U.S. Industries, Inc., New York City.
Sees Construction Lag
The recently issued 1974 Dodge/Sweet's Construction Outlook shows that contracting for new construction work throughout the nation this year will total $101 billion, only 2% above last year's level of about $98.7 billion. The forecast sees a "substantial slowdown from the way things were in 1973, and a generally hostile environment for construction."
Oklahoma Brick Corp. Issues Stock Dividend
A 6% stock dividend, involving issuance of six new shares for every 100 presently issued and outstanding, was declared by the Board of Directors of Oklahoma Brick Corporation at a meeting in Oklahoma City on December 11, 1973.
Oklahoma Brick Corporation is the only completely automated clay brick manufacturer in the Western two-thirds of the U.S. Current expansion in related fields includes: new fully automated concrete brick and block production facility now operational; brick panel system now being marketed; and expanded shale aggregate plant now in planning stage.
Masonry Institute Names Holland Exec. Director
Winfield S. Holland has been appointed executive director of the Masonry Institute, Washington, D.C., announced H. Ludwig Wiechmann, institute president.
Most recently associated with a Washington advertising and public relations firm as its creative director, Holland previously devoted 16 years to the promotion and sale of architectural masonry materials in the New England states.
He is also former executive director of the Facing Tile Institute and prior to that was president of Clay Products, Inc., Hartford, Conn.
