Sure Cavity and 10mm Sure Cavity Become ICC-ES-Evaluated

Words: Mark Johnson, John KoesterSure Cavity™ and 10mm Sure Cavity™, manufactured by Masonry Technology Inc. (MTI), received an evaluation report (ESR#2044) from ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), providing evidence that their Sure Cavity™ and 10mm Sure Cavity™ products meet code requirements. Building officials, architects, contractors, specifiers, designers and others utilize the ICC-ES Evaluation Reports to provide a basis for using or approving Sure Cavity™ and 10mm Sure Cavity™ in construction projects following the International Building Code.

ICC-ES President Mark Johnson explains why ICC-ES Evaluation Reports are so important. “Masonry Technology Inc. can now reference the evaluation report to ensure building officials and the building industry that the product meets I-Code requirements,” Johnson said. “Building departments have a long history of using evaluation reports, and ICC-ES operates as a technical resource for the building department. Final approval of building products is always in the hands of the local regulatory agency.”

ICC-ES thoroughly examined Masonry Technology Inc. (MTI) product information, test reports, calculations, quality control methods and other factors to ensure the product is code compliant. According to Mark Johnson, MTI’s technology manager, “Masonry Technology Inc. (MTI) has dedicated itself to creating the most effective, most technologically superior drainage planes and weep systems in the world. We are pleased to have received this ICC Evaluation, ESR-2044, for our Sure Cavity™ product line. MTI has worked tirelessly for many years to not only create the best products for our customers, but to also make available the most comprehensive library of educational material on how to best use those products to create buildings that are sustainable, healthy and energy efficient. All of this information is available on our website, www.MTIdry.com.”

ICC-ES is the United States’ leading source of technical information on building products and building technology for code compliance. A nonprofit, public-benefit corporation, ICC-ES performs technical evaluations of building products, components, methods and materials. The evaluation process culminates with the issuance of reports on compliance with the major U.S. building codes, which are available at www.icc-es.org.

ICC-ES is a subsidiary of the International Code Council, a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention that develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and states that adopt codes choose the International Codes developed by the International Code Council.

Upon receiving news of the ICC-ES Evaluation Report, John Koester, founder and CEO of MTI, responded, “Masonry Technology Inc. (MTI), one of the leading manufacturers of rainscreen drainage plane technology, is proud to report the recent completion of ICC evaluation process for their Sure Cavity™ product line. Sure Cavity™ (SC5016 and SC5032) and 10mm Sure Cavity™ (SCMM2516 and SCMM2532) are the leading rainscreen drainage plane technology in the industry.
