ABOUT THE AUTHOR
supplier and will vary but little. Labor costs may vary depending on capable workmen, good equipment, and efficient supervision. Past experience and accurate records are essential in determining labor costs on all types of construction. Fringe benefits, insurance and social security taxes are determined by actual labor costs and are considered as a job cost in preparing an estimate.
Overhead cost may vary depending on volume and office personnel.
Profit we must have if we are to remain in business.
A labor cost table should be prepared which can be referred to when estimating the labor costs on a job. For example.
The labor cost table will give you actual labor costs per thousand based on a bricklayer laying from 100 units to 1,000 units per day being tended by the required number of helpers. A prepared estimate sheet is not an accurate estimate but is intended to show a proper plan for preparing an estimate. Also an actual cost record for comparison.
-LABOR COST SHEET-
Labor Costs are determined from ones experience and proper job records. A Labor Cost schedule can be prepared in any area to be referred to which will give the actual cost of labor per thousand, using on or more bricklayers and one or more laborers, with bricklayers, laying from 100 to 1,000 units of material (brick, block, tiles, etc.) in an eight hour period.
For this article we assume the following Wage Rates to be in effect along with the listed Fringe Benefits. This will vary from area to area and will require each Mason Contractor to compile his own Area Labor Cost Sheet.
