interior fireplace with exposed wall
Most outdoor fireplaces look like miniature Egyption tombs or the rude relics of a campers' party. This graceful design shows what can be done to create a simple, yet elegant, fireplace with natural countertop in a modest landscaped setting. The push-und-pull of bricks at one spot provides a decorative relief for the mass of the screen wall. Note how the garden penetrates the Interior to create a flow from outdoor to indoor living.

The inherent flexibility of the brick still permits continued opportunity for creative design, as this fireplace wall shows. Here, the ancient arch is combined with a raised hearth to provide an arresting visual focal point for the living area.
