interior court
The indoor court is as old as the ancient houses of Pompeil and as new as the most modern American urban housing. It is a legitimate though not necessarily an expensive symbol of luxury in the home. It brings in the sunlight and charm of the outdoors without sacrificing privacy. It may be covered by a skylight, or open to the sky and enclosed with glass, as shown here. A masonry border filled with stones, a few plants, and a small pool supporting a simple brick sculpture add a touch of elegant tranquillity.
recreation room bar
The easy maintenance of masonry suggests its use in active areas of the household. Brick is used not only for exposed interior walls but to create additional interest in a maintenance-free masonry bar for both cocktail crowd and soft-drink set. Flat pavers are laid up vertically here with open slits to provide a different and durable pattern.
