Dur-O-wal Fact Sheet
Common construction problems and their solutions with the use of Adjustable Wall Ties in masonry walls are discussed in a new fact sheet from Dur-O-waL. The illustrated bulletin shows the application of both "Z" Type and Rectangular Adjustable Wall Ties for cavity, composite and veneered masonry wall construction. Problems of cold weather work, waterproofing, parging, facing, uneven coursing and delayed arrival of masonry units are reviewed with emphasis on the applications of wall ties. Anchor Attachment
Robert Bosch Corporation has announced the availability of a self-drilling anchor attachment for the Bosch Rotary Hammer, model number 11201. The attachment is shown in the lower half of the photo with the Bosch tool. Developed and marketed by the Phillips Drill Company, Inc., originators of the self-drilling anchor, the "Red Head Roto Stop" employs a new concept that uses rotation for masonry anchor drilling and allows the operator to stop and start the rotary action easily and conveniently. Waterproofing Paint
HYDRO-STOP, a newly developed, self-contained waterproofing paint has been introduced by KWAL PAINTS, INC., Denver, Colo., a pioneer manufacturer of protective coatings for masonry structures. The new paint product is a ready-mixed material specifically formulated to prevent moisture and seepage through interior masonry surfaces below ground level. Proper viscosity is governed by the porosity of the surface being painted. Coarse textured masonry requires a somewhat lower viscosity in order to penetrate pores and completely sealcoat the surface. A previously used stiff bristle brush is recommended for best results. Where color is desired, HYDRO-STOP may be top-coated with any breathing-type paint such as latex or vinyl. One gallon of HYDRO-STOP will cover approximately 100 sq. ft. The waterproofing properties of HYDRO-STOP have been laboratory and field tested against 4 lbs. per sq. in. hydrostatic pressure on interior surfaces. This is equivalent to the force of a nine-foot column of water. HYDRO-STOP contains Pliolite, a vinyl-toluene resin developed by the chemical division of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. KWAL uses another modification of Pliolite in its KWAL-KRETE exterior masonry paint. The combination of HYDRO-STOP and KWAL-KRETE offers two-surface waterproofing protection to all masonry buildings.
Versatile Anchor Clips
Panel Clip, manufacturer of building material products today announced a number of new uses for its versatile new Anchor Clip. Among them: The ability to provide a more secure anchorage of roof rafters or trusses to wood walls. For use as a metal "tee" anchor. Tee anchors are usually required when anchoring a wood joist to masonry walls. Anchor Clips should be applied to every fourth joist and nailed near the bottom of the joist. When the anchorage of a wood plate to concrete, brick or block is called for, Anchor Clips can serve the purpose. In addition, they provide an excellent end shortage for a joist when framing into masonry walls.
