Robert N. Hansen
Dies Suddenly
MCAA and the masonry industry lost a longtime and good friend with the recent death of Robert N. Hansen of Glen Ellyn, III. Mr. Hansen, 49, died suddenly in Memorial Hospital of Du Page, Elmhurst, III. He was the owner of the mason contracting firm of Hansen & Hempel of Elmhurst.
Mr. Hansen pioneered brick panel construction in the building of such major shopping centers as Oak Brook Mall, Yorktown, Hawthorne Center, Orland Square, Riverside Mall, Lincoln Mall, Market Place, River Oaks and Woodfield Mall. He was a recipient of "Excellence In Masonry" awards for three different projects. He also was one of the first mason contractors in the area to employ a woman as an apprentice bricklayer.
Mr. Hansen was a 27-year member of Local 74 of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen of Illinois and former president of the Mason Contractors Association of Du Page County. He was a member of MCAA's Material Handling Committee and had served since 1960 on the Wage Negotiation Committee of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen-Local 56. He was a trustee of the union's pension fund since 1962.
Mr. Hansen is survived by his wife, Eileen, of Glen Ellyn; a son, William, of Wheaton, III.; two daughters, Vickie (Michael) Madel, of Missoula, Mont., and Dawn Hansen, of Glen Ellyn, and a brother, Raymond.
MCAA extends its heartfelt sympathy to the Hansen family.
Herman J. Krallman,
Cincinnati Mason
Contractor, Dies
Herman J. Krallman, founder of Herman J. Krallman & Sons, Inc., Cincinnati-based mason contracting company, died March 28 at age 79. He resided in nearby Covington, Ky.
Mr. Krallman was a member of MCAA and the Allied Construction Industries of Cincinnati for many years. An example of his firm's work was featured in the March, 1980 issue of Masonry.
Mr. Krallman is survived by his wife, Catherine; four sons, John, Ted and Tom, who were associated with him in business, and Tony; a daughter, Betty Lykins Reilman: 29 grandchildren; one great grandchild: a sister, and two brothers.
