MICHIGAN DESIGN COMPETITION

Nine students in the School of Architecture at Lawrence Institute of Technology in Southfield, Michigan, were recognized for outstanding entries in the seventh biennial masonry design competition sponsored by the Masonry Institute of Michigan. The awards were recently presented at a banquet in Troy.

Steven G. Gerrard of Garden City won first prize of $300 in the senior class competition problem-the designing of a fictional Community Arts Center for LIT on the Duns Scotus Campus in Southfield. David A. Mexico of Oak Park was also recognized for his graphic illustration of this design problem.

Todd R. Outman of Belding, led the junior class by also winning first prize of $300. The junior class competition problem was to design a School of Arts and Crafts for the Duns Scotus Campus.

Other junior class competition winners included four students who each received Honorable Mention and $50 in cash: Anthony P. Esson, Gaylord; Niels J. Guldager, Detroit; Brian E. Howard, originally from Mission Viejo, California; and Scott A. Morrison of Royal Oak. Additionally. Keith D. Kosik, from Reese, was acknowledged for his special depiction and artistry of his model. And Sean T. O'Brien of Roseville was recognized for his elevation design rendition.
