DESIGN MODULE III
continued from page 7
Seminars were conducted by Dr. James Colville, associate dean of engineering, University of Maryland, and Robert J. Beiner, director of engineering for IMI.
According to Beiner, subsequent correspondence with the attendees indicated that 24 universities will start new masonry courses or add masonry to an existing course. Thirteen others will use the material to expand existing masonry courses.
There are 194 accredited engineering schools in the U.S. and Canada, of which about 35 taught masonry in some fashion prior to the introduction of IMI's Educational Syllabus. The ultimate goal, Beiner said, is to have masonry taught in all 194 schools to ensure a continuous flow of engineers knowledgeable in masonry design.
IMI's Educational Syllabus consists of three separate modules and sets forth presently accepted procedures necessary to design with masonry materials. The program was developed specifically for educators to enable them to develop a masonry course with minimal effort.

With the Newly Added Module III-
"Structural Design of Masonry Materials"
A complete outline and course in masonry design is now available to educators interested in teaching structural design to engineering students. A state-of-the-art review of presently accepted design procedures, this course covers loadbearing structures, columns, pilasters, materials, connections, construction details and high-rise and warehouse design examples.
The Educational Syllabus consists of three individual Modules: Module 1-Material Science of Masonry Materials; Module II-Engineering Laboratory of Masonry Materials, and the newly completed Module III-Structural Design of Masonry Materials. Module III consists of 220 pages and includes numerous charts, graphs and illustrations to aid in the understanding and use of structural masonry.

Cancer is
often curable.
The fear
of cancer is
often fatal.
If you're afraid of
cancer...you're not alone.
But some people are so afraid that they won't go to the doctor when they suspect something's wrong.
They're afraid the doctor might "find some thing." This kind of fear can prevent them from discovering cancer in the early stages when it is most often curable.
These people run the risk of letting cancer scare them to death.
