JOHNSTON DELIVERS ASSOCIATION'S STATE OF THE ASSOCIATION ADDRESS
Orlando, Florida
"Strategically thinking about the future of the masonry industry" was the theme of Mason Contractors Association of America President Richard M. Johnston's State of the Association address delivered to nearly four hundred association members and guests at the convention's Opening Session Breakfast in Orlando.
During the twenty minute address, Johnston highlighted the key accomplishments of the MCAA during the past year as well as outlining some of the goals for the upcoming year. Johnston outlined the Board's involvement in developing a new long range strategic plan and the new focus that the Board will undertake in managing the association's growth. During his remarks he reported that workforce development will remain a prime focus for the association as he outlined plans to expand the MCAA's role in the area of recruitment and training. A highlight of his speech came when he discussed plans for greater involvement in promoting the use of masonry. "Customer focus groups have told us that the masonry industry is too splintered with too many sources of information. The MCAA can and must become a single unifying force for promoting our industry." Johnston added, "We must continue to become a leader in promoting masonry."
He called on the MCAA to expand its involvement in the areas of legislative action and asked all mason contractors to join with the MCAA to gain greater influence and build a stronger, more united industry.

1ST ANNUAL MCAA CHARITY GOLF EVENT
"This course was the best course MCAA has ever played in all the years I've been attending the Show," said Jim O'Connor of the Mason Contractors Association of Greater Chicago. Celebration Golf Club in Celebration, Florida was the home of the 2001 Masonry Showcase's Golf Outing. Over forty mason contractors, exhibitors, and industry affiliates golfed their best to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Illinois. The golf event raised almost $5,000 for the wish of a terminally ill child in Chicago.
