OSHA has released a new National Emphasis Program (NEP) on outdoor and indoor heat. The program went into effect on April 8 of this year and will remain in effect for three years.

This Wednesday, October 20th, the MCAA will host our next safety leaders Zoom call. It will be a bit unique because our featured guest will be Brad Hammock from Littler Mendelson P.C. Brad will discuss the new COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standard.

Our new Foreman class was held in Phoenix, AZ October 4-5. Read more about the course and how to sign up for the class to be held at World of Concrete in January.

The 2021 Nitro Rallycross Racing Series opened this past weekend at the Utah Motorsports Campus. The MCAA is sponsoring a car this year with several other industry sponsors, including: CrewTracks, EZG Manufacturing, Masonry Cosmetics, and SPEC MIX.

The MCAA's newly-redeveloped Foreman Development Course went on the road August 24th and 25th in St. Louis, MO.

Housing deadline is August 15th. Registration for the MCAA Midyear Meeting remains strong. There is still time to register, and we are in the process of securing new hotel room blocks. As of today, The Peabody Hotel is sold out.

Registration for the MCAA Midyear Meeting has been very robust to date. Space has become extremely limited at the hotel, with September 10th and 11th now sold out.

The Masonry Foundation Accepting Grant Requests

Here's a quick update from the Masonry Foundation.

The MCAA is hosting another Safety Roundtable with the discussions focusing on what to expect from a Biden Administration.

I wanted to take a moment to invite you to join us for the MCAA Annual Meeting in Captiva, FL Feb. 7-10. We have had a unique opportunity to offer our annual meeting this coming year outside of Las Vegas due to the postponement of World of Concrete.

The MCAA is excited to announce that we will be holding an Annual Meeting from February 7th-10th, 2021. The meeting will be held at the South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island in Florida.

The MCAA is excited to announce that the 2020 Midyear Meeting is a go. We are expecting a refreshing time for members to network safely and in accordance with CDC guidelines.

OSHA has had numerous recent rulings and interpretations that have been good for our industry. Just yesterday, they announced further clarification on a COVID interpretation that was released earlier this year.

Recently, OSHA announced that employers taking documented temperature screenings and/or asking employees to fill out written symptom surveys must comply with the Access Rule.

UPDATE 3.27.2020: Amid the current situation involving the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, we have decided to cancel the MCAA Legislative Fly-In for 2020.

The documents were developed by the Construction Industry Safety Coalition, a group of nearly 50 construction associations. This is a document to help assist with job site direction on how to deal with the COVID-19.

The MCAA would like to appeal to all of our contractors to check the inventory of N-95 masks. As you've probably heard, these masks are desperately needed in hospitals across the country. There are severe shortages right now.

A Word on the New AHC Plan

We are very happy to present a new optional event for the MCAA Midyear Meeting. On Monday, September 24, MCAA First Lady Susie Odom will be hosting a ladies tour of downtown Austin.

The MCAA has just learned that the DC Circuit Court has made its decision regarding the silica court challenge.

OSHA will begin full implementation of their new silica rule on Monday, October 23, 2017. At that time, the soft roll out will end and companies will need to be in full compliance of the rule.

The Treasury Department has formally recommended withdrawing the Section 2704 regulations on family business valuation.

We've just received word last night that there is a modified roll out for the new silica rule that begins enforcement on Saturday this week.

As you may know we have been working to try to come to a resolution on the final silica rule.
